My Marketing ‘Hero’
About 10 years ago I was standing in the hallway of a hotel in Baltimore with my mentor Bill Glazer. After a long day of learning, we had just had a group dinner with my fellow GKIC Independent Business Advisors, and this was really valuable time alone with my ‘marketing hero.”
As Bill always did when we in person together, he asked me about my son, my health, and how I was doing success-wise. Because I always sensed that Bill really cared about people — especially the ones on his team, I always answered honestly whenever he asked me personal questions.
Bill asked me what my goals were. I told him that my vision was to “help as many entrepreneurial business owners be more successful than their spouse, partner, family, etc. ever imagined they could be.”
He paused for about a minute, and then he asked, “How are you going to do that?”
I didn’t have answer for him immediately.
He then rapidly named names of people in the Los Angeles area that were fellow students of GKIC — big names themselves and making a difference — to reach out to and ask for help. He referred me to some of his family members as resources for locations and influence. He rattled off several other resources and databases that I could use to instantly get results.
Bill truly cared about my success and there was no agenda behind it. My success was his success.
Now, I have yet to be the biggest influence in people’s lives in business or marketing in the greater Los Angeles area. Many people HAVE heard of me, but it’s a constant journey.
Why am I sharing this with you?
