There’s a Fortune in This

We recently got our screens replaced in the front door and in the back room where my office is. Like teenagers leaving graffiti on a wall in the park, our cat likes to leave his “signature” scratch so we know he was there. (“Milo was here!” :)

I made several calls to different screen people. The one who got our business was the one who actually called us back and left a message — and then called back again until he got the appointment.

When someone [like us] raises our hand and identifies ourselves as having interest in your business, it is just plain dumb to make only one attempt at reaching out or selling to that person — and it’s equally dumb to let that lead “chill” before follow up.

When a lead is “hot”, it’s “hot.”

One screen guy did call us back a week later. Too late, too little effort. The excuse? “I’m sorry. We are very busy and this was the first chance I got to return your call.”

My response to him: “Sir, I suggest you fix your business and how you respond to people who actually want to do business with you or you won’t be busy at all in the future.

You have a distinct advantage in business IF you just follow up with people who expressed interest, either by email follow up, text, ChatBot, personal phone calls, letters… whatever means works! Use them all.

The fortune is in the follow-up. Again, because virtually nobody does a decent job with follow-up, when you do, our competitive edge is huge and automatic.
